ANZAC DAY.
STATE SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS. A very impressive ceremony took place at the local State school this morning, at 11.30 o’clock. Tho scholars were assembled in the spacious quadrangle, the Senior Cadets lining the outside of the square, and all facing the flag. The children were addressed by the Chairman of Committee, who touched upon the landing at Gallipoli, and spoke of personal sacrifice and loyalty. He made touching reference to ex-scholars who had participated in the historic landing, making special reference to the late Sergt. Alex. Gray, M.M. Master H. Burr recited Kipling’s “Recessional” very nicely. The flag was then saluted, and the following declaration made by all the scholars:; — I love God and my country, I honour the flag, I will serve the * King and cheerfully obey my parents, my teachers and the laws of the land. The National Anthem was sung* and all bowed their heads for a few moments in memory of the departed heroes. The scholars then dismissed for the remainder of the day. The head teacher said that steps were being taken to have an honours board erected at the school in memory of ex-scholars who had gone to light for King and country^
