SHOOTING AFFRAY NEAR OAMARU.
FARMER AND HIS TWO SISTERS SHOT. Oamaru,, April 14. * A sensational shooting affray occurred at 8 o’clock this evening at Gemmcll’s Crossing, on the Kakanui River, about ten miles from Oamaru, and a favoured spot for fishing camps. A young married farm-, cr, named George Burke, and’his two sisters, were shot without provocation. Details of the tragedy are meagre. Burke died before medical aid could be obtained. One of the young women is in a serious condition, but is expected to reach hospital after midnight. It is reported that the assailant was a returned soldier, belonging to* Oamaru, who used an automatic revolver. . A police sergeant and constables were early on tbe scene, but have not yet returned to town.
