FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
PROTEST AGAINST VALU- , ATION. The Foxton Harbour Board met at Palmerston North on Thursday. Present: Messrs P. Henuessy (chairman), \V. Barber, J. Robertson, J, A. Nash, T. Rimmer, J, Linklater, T. J. Clapham, and AV. Bock (secretary). » Foxton Borough Council wrote, applying for a lengthy lease of a portion of the foreshore of the Maria watu River, near the Rowing Club’s sheds, for the purpose of erecting swimming baths.—-It was left in the hands of the local committee to arrange site at a peppercorn rental. Mr E. Pratt, secretary of the Beach Improvement Committee, wrote, in reference to sale of further beach seetitons. Also suggesting a piece of ground should be set aside for a recreation ground. Left to the Foxton committee to confer with the Beach Committee and report to next meeting in reference to the recreation, grounds, and also to arrange about further Sections for sale. 1 The treasurer reported a creditbalance of £4OB 13s 7d. The Land and Survey Department wrote in reference to the acquisition of Round Bush, Foxton, for a scenic reserve, recommending the purchase of four acres of the remaining Kahikatea bush, together with access to".same. Owing to heavy and urgent financial calls it could not recommend the acquisition of the further. 42 acres unless the local authorities paid half the cost, the capital value of which was / £432!, the amount of improvements being £l2. It wqs decided to emphatically protest against the valuation, and ask that the value of the land be submitted to arbitration.
