PROTESTANT POLITICAL ASSOCIATION.

There was a large attendance at last night’s meeting of the local branch of the Protestant, Political Association, held in the Presbyterian Sabbath school hall. The Rev. J. H. Bredin presided. After routine business had been discussed, the following resolution was carried unanimously, and ordered to be forwarded to the Prime Minister:— “We enter the most emphatic protest against the action of the Hon. the Minister of Customs in censoring and refusing admittance to New Zealand of Protestant literature ordered by Mr H. H. Seabrook, of Auckland, The literature in question is comprised of widely advertised and circulated publications in the United States and Canada, numbers of copies of which are already in circulation in the Dominion. They contain historical facts and reprints from recognised journals, and their circulation will be of great use and benefit ,to the Protestants of this country. The suppression of such literature in the interests of the Roman Church constitutes an invasion of the rights and liberties of every Protestant, and is a menace to our security and wellbeing, such as calls for the most strenuous apposition, and we respectfully but earnestly request the Right, Hon. the Prime Minister to cause the embargo to be removed and the literature admitted.” Arrangements were made for the Rev. Howard Elliott to visit Poxton at an early dale. - ■
