MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The regular meetiing of the Manawatu County Council was held on Monday. Present: Crs Sir Jas. Wilson (chairman), H. H. Hunt, W* E. Barber, W. J. Phillips, J. Boyce,The action of the overseer in leiting a metalling contract on the Foxton-Shannon road for the sum of 15s per yard was approved. The special order passed on March 11th with reference to -the Oroua Downs Drainage District was confirmed. The following alterations to the fate roll were approved:—George Coley to Poplar Flaxmilling Co., section at Carnarvon. The Tramway Manager reported as follows: —The traffic for the pasfj month was good. The chief items of traffic were; Merchandise 155 J tons, grain 60 tons, sheep 117 trucks, cheese 106 tons, timber 32,500 ft. The accounts show a, debit of £126 11s sd, but included in expenditure is £lB2 0s Id for sleepers and freight. The metal trucks have been overhauled and axle boxes lined, etc. The side rods of loco. “Manawatu” have been closed. The engineer reported as follows on the Awahou riding: —I have arranged with Messrs Suisted and Danielson to apply and deliver the maintenance metal required for the Foxton-Shannon road for the sum of 15s per yard. I am sending metal to Foxton to-day by tram to repair the worst holes in the Whirokino road.
