THE BEACH CONCERT.
The sealing: accommodation at the Beach church was insufficient to accommodate all the people that turned up on Wednesday night at the concert organised by Mesdames Grant and Teviotdale, and although chairs were borrowed from several of the houses, a large number could not obtain seats, and many had to stand outside. The building was nicely decorated . with flags and greenery, and a piano was provided by Mrs Grant. The object of the concert was to provide money towards a fund which is being organised to build a ball at the beach, a building that is very much needed. The concert opened with the singing of the National Anthem. All the, performers were in good voice, and every il ear was encored. The first item was a. song and chorus by Miss Signal, followed by songs by Mr Hooker and Miss Stewart, the latter singing “God Send You Back to Ate.’’ Mrs Cronquest gave a recitation, and songs followed by Ml’ Signal, Messrs Corbett and Reeve, Miss Signal, Air Barr, Miss Grant, Mrs Freeman,Miss Nelson, and Mr .Cronquest. . Aloster Stewart Grant favoured the audience with a violin solo, and the entertainment was brought to a close with a duet by Messrs Barr and. Signal. Cheers were given for the concert party, who were afterwards entertained at supper at Mrs Grant’s, the beach residents assisting with the refreshments. The Afayor (Mr John Chrystall), who presided, referred to the necessity of a hall at the beach, and expressed the hope that stl«vfunds necessary would soon be forthcoming. •,!. The takings amounted to £lO, an,d much credit is due to Mrs Grant for organising the entertainment, and to Mrs Teviotdale for arranging the concert programme. Owing to a mishap to the car, the Borough Band was unable to be present, as arranged. ; Afr Hartley kindly provided cars Tree of charge to convey Foxtoa people to and from the concert. Mrs Grant desires to thank all who assisted to make the entertainment such a pronounced success.
