AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE.
Wellington, March 5. A conference between members of the Ministry and representatives of farmers, freezing companies, tanners, and others was held to-day to consider the changes proposed by the Imperial Government. No change in price is proposed regarding slipe wool. The changes proposed affect hides and skins, and will mean a reduction of (he price in New Zealand. An important point at issue is the date from whioh the new prices are to operate. If they come into operation immediately, the loss will be suffered by those who bought live stock or hides anl skins on the presell ruling values for export. The question of the date on which the new prices operate has still to be settled between the New Zealand Government and the Imperial authorities. The different sections of the conference separated into committees to discuss the points on which they are specially interested, and the decisions come to were submitted to the conference. At the conclusion Of (he business, Mr Massey said the delegates had adopted a most reasonable attitude, and the opinions expressed would he very valuable to the New Zealand and Imperial Governments in their negotiations.
