MANAWATU HUT.

The local effort to raise funds towards the erection of a Manawatu Hut was held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday last. The public supported the ' effort well, and a considerable sum will be forwarded to the fund. The stalls, laden with good things, were as follow: — Produce and Flowers: Mrs A. S. Easton, Mrs Jenks, and Mrs A. Harper. Cake: Miss Woodroofe and assistants. Sweets; Mrs Gower, assisted by the Misses Gower (2), Hawera, and Bryant. Needlework : Mesdames Kirkley, MeMurray, and* C. H. Symons. Tulip Garden Surprise Packets: Misses 1.Robinson and M, Pearson. Ice Cream: Miss D. Hawke. A large marquee was erected, where afternoon tea and fruit salad were dispensed, under the care of Mrs S. Easton and Miss Symons, assisted by many willing helpers. Music was supplied by the Borough Band and Mr R. T. Betty’s orchestra, Miss Betty and Mr S. B. Collins.

The various competitions were won as follows: —Produce Stull • Box of ton, Mrs B. Huntley; pair of roosters, Mps Alex. Speiys. Sweets stall: Box of sweets, Mrs Healey and Miss Pearson a tie; box of sweets, Mrs C. H. Symons. Needlework stall: Trinket Box, Mrs S. Easton; pillow shams, Mrs Symes; cushion, Mrs Heath; 10s Mr Jack Thompson. Cake stall: The cake was Avon by Mrs Spiers.
