PATRIOTIC SPORTS AT SHANNON.
SATURDAY NEXT,
The patriotic sports meeting arranged to he held at Shannon on Saturday, in aid of the Ilorowhenua Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, promises to be a great The full programme appears in our advertising columns,, and the first event is 'set down to start at 11 o’clock. Good prizes have been provided in all events. Nominations for the chopping events and the tug-of-war dose to-day. In the tug-of-war (eight men aside), handsome gold medals are provided for the winners, and the promoters hope to receive at least one or iyo, entries from Foxton. All other events are post entry. There will be a baby show, which is already creating great interest. There will also be on the ground side shows of all kinds, and various competitions will be run. A band will be in attendance, and visitors will be able to obtain luncheon and afternoon tea on the ground. In.the evening a grand patriotic concert will be held.
