JANUARY WORKING,

The amount of gas manufactured during the month of January was 443,800 ft., and there was .12,900 ft, ;in the holder on January Ist, making a total of 450,700 ft. The amount sold to customers for lighting was 100,900 ft., for cooking ami heating 135,700 ft., and tor power 70.900 ft., 14,000 ft. was used in the street lumps, 17,500 ft. at the works and manager's house, and there was 12.900 ft. in the holder on February Ist, leaving 38,200 ft., representing 81 per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Thirty-nine tons 19 cwt. of eoal was carbonised, yielding 11,100 ft. per ton. MANAGER’S REPORT. The gas works manager reported at last night’s Council meeting as follows: —The amount of gas manufactured for the month of January shows a slight decrease as against December on the total, but an increase on the heating and cooking gas. You will notice that the unaccounted for gas is a little higher than the previous month, the reason being that I was unable to read all the meters on account of some consumers being away. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily. I would recommend that the street lanterns and posts he painted, especially the funner, as they are in urgent need of same, —The report was adopted.
