FOXTON RACES.

MOST SUCCESSFUL MEETING.

The weather conditions were perfect for the annual race meeting of the Foxton Racing Club, held on Tuesday, and the attendance, despite the fact that there wex-e no special trains, was generally recognised as a record for the course. Never before has such a number of motor ears been seen in Foxton, and the car enclosure at the course was packed. The Club has recognised for some time that the accommodation in the stand and lawn, and the facilities at the totalisator, are inadequate for the large crowd that attends the meeting, and arc making provision for extending same, (ait owing to the war it was deemed inadvisable tp carry out the scheme this year. That an extension i«\absolutely essential and must be carried out as early as conditions will allow was quite obvious on Tuesday, there being congestion everywhere.'The meeting passed off without a hitch, all the arrangements being well in hand, thus .justifying the reputation that the local meeting has of being one of the best conducted country meetings in the Dominion, and the secretary (Mr Ended Wanklyn), and the stewards and officials are to be congratulated on the. success that attended their efforts. The (rack was in excellent order, and the racing throughout interesting. The starting of Mr Angus Keith left nothing to he desired, the fields being: despatched well together and without any undue delay at the post. The judge, Mr J. 11. Mr Gordon, tiie stipendiary steward, bad an easy time, for beyond administering a caution to McEwau, the rider of Master Moutoa in the Cup, for careless riding, there was nothing which called for his attention.

Speculation on the totalisator was brisk, (he sum of £24,995 going through the machine. This is easily a record for a single day for the course, and shows an increase of £6,937 over the first day last year (£18,058), which was also n record, and is only £8,055 short of the twu> days’ total £32,999 last year.
