THE MAORI “PROPHET.”
REQUEST FOR RELEASE OF RUA Rotorua, Jan. 12, A deputation of Tuhoe Maoris interviewed the lion. T. M. Wilford on Saturday afternoon, requesting the remission of Rua’s sentenee, expiring in August next. They promised loyalty, stating they had sent men to the front, and were willing to send more.
Mr Wilford said lie had seen Him, who promised no( to claim power above the Jaw, .Rim’s conduct in gaol was excellent. In view of that, and the Maoris’ evidence of loyalty, he would bring Run’s case before the Prisons Board, recommending his release on the finding of sureties for good behaviour.
