Forty tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,080 ft. per ton. MANAGER'S REPORT. The gas works manager’s report, as follows, was read at last night’s Council meeting; —The amount of gas manufactured for the month of December shows an increase on that of November. Lighting gas used in December shows a decrease of 14,000 ft. as against November, and cooking, healing and power an increase. The total decrease for the hotels is 12,500 ft. for lighting, on account ot the early (dosing, as compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily, and I hope to be able to start painting some of the plant. I have to report that the stoker’s annual holiday of a fortnight is due, but, being unable to go away, ho is willing to work on provided he receives the holiday pay. 1 would recommend this being done, as I would have great difficulty in getting a temporary man.
