APPEAL COURT.
W. G. BEARD STRUCK OFF ROLL,
Wellington, Dec. 10.
The Appeal Court gave judgment to-day in (he application to strike W. (r. Beard, of Masterlon, otf (he roll on the ground of professional misconduct alleged in dealings with Rangi Kerehoma, and that, knowing the latter’s improvident nat'nrh)_, he had not properly advised him.
The Court found the charges established, and considered that, (hough he could not he charged with not having made reparation, it was clear he hud profiled at the expense of his client. The whole record of legal work done showed that Rangi’s interests had not been considered, hut the interests of Chennels and Beard occupied the foremost place, so that land owned by Rangi could he acquired by relatives of and Chennels. Kol until after the properly was dealt with and lenses arranged without reference to Rangi’s interest, was the latter advised (to get independent legal advice to see all was in order. The Board must conclude that Beard had failed in his duty, It recognised his ago, and that he had been in ill-health and had made reparation, but it must exercise a disciplinary power, and ordered the suspension of three years, with costs on the highest scale; the.suspension is to operate from 1 the end of February next.
