CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.
Hamilton, Dee. 7. At the Police Court, William Albert Harry was charged with attempted murder by shooting David Kernohan, a miner, at Huntly, on November 2nd. Both are young men. Kernohan stayed at the boardinghouse of accused. After a friendly talk, accused secured a guu and fired point-blank at Kernohan, the sliot entering the righUshoulder. The latter has been an inmate of the Waikato Hospital ever since. No provocation was given. Dr. Douglas, superintendent of the hospital, stated that the wound, was a very serious one, the arm being permanently disabled. Constable Farr, Huntly, stated that accused came to the police station, saying: “I shot Dave Kernohan for violating my wife; I had no sleep for nine nights. I am satisfied now.” On going to the house, Kernohan said: “Haiary shot me.” Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court next week. No bail was allowed.
