SPRING SHOW.
A RECORD EXHIBITION. The local Horticultural Society is to be congratulated upon the record success of this year’s Spring Show. The exhibitions of cut blooms, particularly roses and sweet peas, were magnificent. Apart from the flowers and decorative exhibits, the school work was a distinctive- feature. The judging gave general satisfaction, and those entrusted with this onerous work were particularly pleased with the exhibits and the excellent staging by the stewards. Several schools outside Foxton competed in the school work classes. Among the exhibitors was . Mr H. Witchell, of Otaki, a former president of the Society. Apart from this, thfe other exhibits in flowers and vegetables were local. The fancy work classes-attracted a good deal of interest on the part of the ladies, who spoke very highly of the exhibits. The cookery classes, both for adults and juveniles, bore evidence that Foxton can hold its own in this connection. Vegetables were not a numerous exhibit, The potatoes, however, made u fine display. The Borough Band and Betty’s ■Orchestra provided musical selections on both evenings, interspersed with other items by several young performers. The tea rooms were in chargc'of Mrs Baker, and wore liberally patronised, while Miss Woodroofe was kept busy at the sweets stall. The president, secretary and committee are deserving of special praise for the thoroughness of their work. The full prize list appears on pages 1 and 4 of this issue. PRIZE LIST.
