FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

The Patriotic Shop was open on Saturday last, under the charge of Mesdames A. J. Gibbs and Jennings, who acknowledge gifts from the following; Mesdames Woodroofe, Patterson, Hughes, W. Nye, John Robinson, A, Ross, Burr, Jas. Robinson, Arthur Green, W. Riramer, Chas. Robinson, Speirs senr., Wallace, King, Frank Robinson, A. S. Easton, C. Morgan, John Ross, Purcell, A. Harper, C. Symons, Kellow, W, Davis, Rough, P. de Ridder, R. Rand senr., Misses D. Signal, Burr, and Mr Arnold Stevenson. The competition for the sack of coal was not completed, and will be continued next Saturday. The painted plaques presented by Miss Burr were won by Miss Kathleen Green, who guessed Daphne as the name of a flower. There were three winners for the cake competition, Mesdames Harvey, Hart and R. Coley, who luckily chose the unlucky 13, and divided the cake. The most noticeable feature of the shop during the last month has been the beautiful flowers presented by Mrs A. S. Easton, whiph blooms are always eagerly sought. A big day is expected next Saturday, when the men will have command at the shop, and hope to raise a good sum for the Ladies’ Patriotic Guild, who are requiring funds to carry on their Red Cross work. Full details will be published later, A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Society will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Council Chamber, to meet Mr J. W, Kinniburgh, secretary of the National War Funds Council, with reference to a proposition to amalgamate the Society with the Council, The Society is trying to arrange for a visit to Foxfon fo give a concert in aid of the funds of the Ladies’ Guild of the Palmei'ston N. Patriotic Concert Party, known as the “Irresistibles,’ ? and also the Awapuni Camp Orchestra. Private James Aitken, late of Foxton, is making the arrangements, and reports that (he concert party give a very fine performance, the singing and costumes being of a very high order.
