THE GAS WORKS.
MANAGER’S REPORT.
The gas works manager reported at last night’s Council meeting as follows: —The amount of gas manufactured during the month of October shows an increase of 38,300 ft. over that of the previous month. The plastering of the concrete well has been completed, and tested, the same being sound. The holder has been lowered into position, and has been in use since the 29th ultimo, and is very satisfactory. I connected, one new consumer this month. The carbonising plant is working satisfactorily with the exception of the purifyers, which are hal’d to keep in order on account of using Westport-Stockton coal, which unfortunately has more than its share of sulphur.” OCTOBER WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured at the local works during the month of October was 407,800 ft., which, with the amount in holder on October Ist, 5,500 ft., made a total of 473,300 ft, The amount: sold to consumers for lighting was 191,900 ft., lor cooking and heating 146,000 ft., and for power 79,300 ft; 19,400 ft. ivas used in the street lamps, 13,900 ft. at the works and manager’s house, and (here was 5,500 ft. in the holder on November Ist, leaving 17,300 ft., representing four percent. of the output, unaccounted for. Forty-two tons two cwt, of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,100 ft. per ton.
