LADIES’ PATRIOTIC GUILD.
The picture of the Rheims Cathedral presented by Mrs C. Symons, was disposed of at the Guild meeting yesterday afternoon. The competition was to guess the length of string in a sealed bottle. The bottle was broken, and the string measured in the presence of the Guild members. The exact length was 31 yards 28 inches. The nearest guesses were those of Mr Jenks / and Mrs McMurray, each guessing 32 yards. It was drawn for, and Mr Jenks was the winner. Many of the guesses were very close, and some many yards off. The compe-: tition realised £6, which was handed over to swell the Guild’s funds. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Symons for carrying out the competition. A vote of thanks was also accorded Mrs Kempster for her aid to the Guild for managing the com-, petition on behalf of the “Our Day”appeal last week. Mrs Kempster’s effort with a “Red Cross Nurse’’ doll realised £5. The doll was do-: uated by Mrs Greig.
