HARBOUR BOARD BILL.

GOVERNMENT ACQUIRES -. ROUND BUSH. Wellington, Yesterday. The Foxton Harbour Board Bill was dealt with in Committee. Mr Massey moved for the insertion of a new clanse reserving the “Round Bush.” Mr Newman protested against the endowments of the Board being reduced without compensation, at the same time he expressed himself as strongly in favour of the preservation of the bush. Mr W. H. Field, M.P., spoke in a similar .strain. Messrs Newman and Field, while agreeing that the bush should ho reserved, contended that it should not be done fit the expense of the Board. The bush is reserved for the benefit of the State, and the State should compensate the Harbour Board accordingly. The members arc of opinion that if this is not done it is > confiscation of the Board’s endowment, which is not fair.
