ST. MARY’S CONVENT.

On Sunday afternoon the new chapel at St. Mary’s Convent was formally opened. The Rev. Pal her McMannus (in the absence of the Rev. Father Cronin) preached} and the Rev. Father Corley gave the Benediction. Among those present were visitors Horn adjoining parishes, The convent is supervised by members of the Brigidiue Order. For some lime the sisters have been somewhat cramped for room, and additions were recently made to the building, which included two rooms for musical students on the ground fioor, with a separate entrance and the chapel upstairs. The architect was the Mother Superior of the local community, and the builders were Messrs Easton and Spcirs; the painting and glazing was done by Mr Admove, and the plumbing and lighting by Mr McColl. The chapel is nicely furnished, and the tinted glass softens the light. The altar furnishings are very artistic, and for the opening ceremony was beautifully decorated. The local community of the Order consists of four sisters, whose time is devoted to conducting the school of upwards of 100 scholars, and in giving art and music lessons to students. The accommodation at the Convent will now be ample to meet requirements for some lime to come.
