MONSTER DEPUTATION TO WAIT ON PRIME MINISTER. Pjiblic meetings have boon‘held throughout the Dominion to protest against the Government’s proposals re closing of liquor bars at 8 p.m., instead of fi p.m. At a packed meeting in the Wellington Town Hall on Sumhry night, presided over by Bishop Sprott, the following motion moved by Dr. Gibb, was carried unanimously : “That, impressed with the need of sacrifice and of putting forth the utmost national vigour in order to end (he Avar, avc reject Avith indignation the half-hearted compromise offered to the people of New Zealand in the Government's proposal of 8 o’clock as the closing hour for the sale of liquor, and avc reaffirm the demand for fi o’clock as the closing hour, or, failing that, a referendum on the question of the entire cessation of the liqnor traffic.” To-day a largo deputation Avill wait upon the Prime Minister at Wellington. Over 100 business men are coming down from Auckland by special trail} to join (he deputation. It is expected that the deputation will number til least 2,000 people. The Prime Minister will receive the deputation at 5.30 p.m. All toAvns throughout the Dominion Avill.be represented on the deputation.
