SEAMEN’S STRIKE UNSETTLED.
Wellington, Sept. 14. After abortive negotiations yesterday, between the Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, the Hon. G. AY. Russell, representatives of the Seamen’s Union, and representatives of the Shipowners’ Federation, a speeitil meeting of the Seamen’s Union was held. The proposal from, the shipowners was unanimously rejected. At leu this morning another largely attended meeting of the Union passed a motion to the effect that it could not agree to the proposal for a Judge of the Supreme Court to preside over a special tribunal to determine Hie number of deck hands in a Avateh at sea; the shipoAvners having refused the Union’s suggestion for the Conciliation Commissioners to preside over such a tribunal, the Union noAv respectfully declines to entertain any tribunal to settle such an important and grave question. The Union has placed this resolution before the Alinisiers and representatives of the shipoAvncrs. It is understood amurther conference takes place this afternoon bctween the Minister for Alarine and the seafnen.
