MILLERS AND GOVERNMENT CONFER TO-DAY. Elaxmillors and exporters of hemp will meet, (lie Government at AVellington to-day with reference to (he future disposal of fibre. The London prices arc to-day higher than they have ever been, and it is highly probable that the Imperial Government is preparing to regulate them by taking over the shipments of fibre as they arrive. Locally, no business is passing, as it would seem impossible to quote prices. The bulk of the fibre of late has been going to America. The mills arc all ready for running to their full capacity in the Manawatu. —Dost. GOVERNMENT CONFER WITH FLAXMILLERS AND MERCHANTS. IMPERIAL PROPOSALS FIXING MAXIMUM PRICES. (By Telegraph —Special to ‘‘Herald.) Wellington This Afternoon. Between thirty and forty tlaxmillers from all parts of the Dominion, together with merchants, met the Prime Minister and Hon. MacDonald this morning, Mr Massey read a cable from (he Imperial Government advising that it was proposed to fix a maximum price at which New Zealand hemp would be sold in London at £B3 good fair, £Bl high fair, £BO low fair, prices to operate from September 15th, but the Imperial Government was prepared to consider any recommendations from Now Zealand before finally confirming same. A meeting of (laxmillors was held subsequently to discuss (he position. The meeting adjourned at 1 o’clock, and will resume at 2 o’clock, and the conference between millers and merchants will be hold at 3.30 to finally adopt recommendations which will then be presented to the Prime Minister to submit to the Imperial authorities.
