SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Thcb monthly meeting of the local School Committee was hold last night. Present; Messrs ITornblow (chairman)> McMurray, Parker, Perrcau, Hussey, Read and Woods. An apology was received from the Rev. Bredin. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Education and Air W. H. Field, ALP., re the Committee’s endorsement of the N.Z. Educational Institute’s recommendations vo the early closing of liquor bars in the cause of education. Both the Minister and member promised to support the recommendations when the subject came before the House. Correspondence wns received from the Board re (he appointment of Aliss Woodruffo to fill the vacancy on the staff caused by the enlistment of Afr Aitkeu, and suggesting the appointment of Aliss AlcAulitt vice Aliss Haro. Iu reference to the latter appointment, disappointment was expressed that the Board had not a male teacher available for the position. It wns decided, however, to endorse the Board’s recommendation. Aliss AlcAuliff's classification is D 94, and her qualifications and experience are Civil Service, teacher’s D., two years’ probationer Taihape, one year assistant at Alalaroa, upwards of two years Wellington Training College, upwards of two years sole charge Ralaiti school, one year and two months assistant Uliku school. It was resolved to thank the Borough Council for reduction of sanitation charge. The headmasters report was read and received. .The Secretary was authorised to confer with the contractor vo asphalting at (he school. It was slated that owing to the difficulty of procuring metal the contractor had not been able to proceed with the work. Jl was resolved to communicate with the Board ro application for subsidy and payment of balance of subsidy due. The Chairman and Air Hussey were appointed visitors for the mouth.
