THE TURAKINA SUNK.

SEVERAL LIVES LOST. Wellington,. Aug. 20. The Government is advised that the New Zealand Shipping Go.’s vessel Tnrakina was sunk on her return journey to the Dominion. Several lives were lost. BEING USED AS A TRANSPORT. Chrislehureh, Aug. 20. Advices received here stale that the Tnrakina was sunk last Monday mi the voyage from London to New York-, having safely landed her New Zealand Reinforcements in Britain. The casualties were the loss of two trimmers and a baker out of a total complement of about 100 men. The Tnrakina was the best-known vessel of the X.Z. Shipping Company’s Heel, and made many voyages with passengers and cargo by (lie direct route lo England. She was a twin-screw steamer of 10,900 tons.
