SCHOOL SANITATION CHARGE

0 COUNCIL .MAKES A REDUCTION. A deputation representing tin* local School Committee, -and consisting- oi‘ Messrs Rev. Brcclin, Hornbiow, Woods, Pcrrean and Petty, waited upon the Borough Council last night, and asked for the remission of the sanitation charge of £8 Ills. Mr Hornbiow staled that prior to the amendment of the Education Act the Board had contributed half-cost of the charge, but for the past throe years the Committee had to meet the charge out of its slightly -increased capitation grant. The capitation grant was barely sufficient to meet current expenses. In order to safeguard the health of the children, the Committee had incurred extra expense, and the health of the children was as much the concern of the Conned as of the Committee. The Committee derived no benefit from the school premises, which was exempt from rates. The Rev. Mr Predin endorsed the remarks of the Chairman, and said that only one (rip was made by the contractor to effect (he removal, whereas ten trips would.have to ho made to separate properties for similar removals. The Mayor informed tin; deputation that their request would receive (lie Council’s favourable consideration.
