TWELVE MILLIONS WANTED

APPEAL TO NEW ZEALAND CITIZENS.

The folloAA'ing appeal to the people of Ncav Zealand to support the selfreliant local War Loan policy of the Government has been issued by the Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward (Minister for Defence): — “FelloAv Citizens.—Encouraged by your magnificent response to my previous appeal, I approach yon Avith great confidence to again support the self-reliant policy you then so heartily endorsed. “The freedom of all free nations and the very existence of our Empire have been attacked as never before in this world’s history. The blood of our brave and noble defenders has mingled Avith that of our kindred and Allies in the vast stream Avhich shall ere long OA r erAvlielm Avith its flood the inhuman perpetrators of unspeakable atrocities against the Aveak and defenceless.

“The supreme effort is still in the future. That it Avill be made, that it Avill succeed, is as certain as that the thrice Avelcome daybreak ever succeeds the darkest night. Even iioav the day is breaking. “But Ave must; still go forward — avo must still provide in full measure the funds necessary to finish the task so earnestly begun, so bravely continued. I feci sure you Avill not fail. I feel sure your response to this, our Liberty Loan, Avill be both prompt and adequate, and that the Treasury Avill bo so replenished that means will he abundantly forthcoming to uphold the honour of those heroes avlio have died for our liberty, and of those iioav battling Tor it against our powerful foes.
