HEMP AND TOW.
DECREASE IN HA EES GRADED. A return showing iho quantities of' hemp, low, and stripper slips graded at the various ports of the Dominion during' July, 1917/gives the following partienlars; — Hemp. —The total number of bales graded was 8,357, as eompared with 10,3.95 for the corresponding period of last year, a decrease of 2,038 males. For the twelve months ended 31st July, 1917, the number of bales graded was 140,874, as compared with 348,020 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 1,152 bales. Tow. —During the month 2.314 bales were dealt with, as compared with 3,115 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of SOI bales. For the twelve months ended 31st July, 1917, the number of bales graded was 30,089, as eompared with 40,701 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 4,003 halos. Btripper Blips.—During the month the number of bales graded was 48, as compared with 449 for the corresponding month of last year, a decrease of 401 bales. For the twelve months ended 31st July, 1917, the number of bale's graded was 3,750, as compared with 7,140 for the previous twelve, a decrease of 3,390 bales.
