RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS.

BOARD’S DECISION. Points that have arisen in connection with appeals have been considered at a conference of chairmen of Military Service Boards, and recommendations have been made to the Government. One of the recommendations is that ordained clergymen shall bo exempted in all cases. A substantial minority was opposed to this proposal. It was also decided that Maris! Brothers should be placed on the same footing as ordinary teachers. Divinity students are to have exemption if they have practically completed their courses and have taken vows. A matter that came up for consideration was the exemption of men engaged in essential industries. Boards up to the present time have granted exemption to about 2,300 lit First Division men on the ground that they are engaged in essential industries, and the Government think (he number is too large. It is understood these cases will be called up for review, and substitution will be insisted upon wherever possible.
