MRS. LUKE’S ADDRESS.
Despite the very inclement weather yesterday afternoon, there was an attendance of upwards of, one hundred women in the Town Hall supper-room to listen to an address by Airs Luke, the Alayoress of Wellington. Among those present were the Alayor (Mr John Chrystall), the Secretary of the loeal Patriotic Society (Mr Kellow) and another male resident. Owing to a mistake, it was publicly not died that the meeting was for ladies only, whereas the male portion of the community would have boon equally Aveleome. Airs Luke made an appeal on behalf of the Christmas Gift Fund for our soldiers and sailors. Mrs Luke spoke interestingly of what the parcels would contain, and how much those gifts were appreciated by the recipients. Information was given as to the packing, addressing, and forwarding of parcels. At the eonelusion of the address (he Alayor proposed a vote ot thanks to Airs Luke. Afternoon tea was partaken of by those present.
