SHORTAGE OF SHIPPING.
THE problem of the shortage of shipping was referred to by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives. Mr Massey stated the shortage was such that is was causing much anxiety, especially to the producing section of the people of the country. Arrangements had been made, however, whereby between now and the end of September seventeen large ships —meat carrying ships —would come to this country to load. Seventeen ships would not carry away the whole of the produce in the stores of New Zealand, but they would make it possible for the new season’s production of cheese and butler to begin as usual. ■ Ten ships wo\ild come within a certain time, and would have an average of 100,000 carcases, and the other seven were duo to arrive before then.
