SECOND DIVISION.
FINAL CLASSIFICATION. ACCORDING TO CHILDREN. “FOR THE TIME BEING.” The final clarification of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve was notified in the form of a Gazette Extraordinary which was issued yesterday afternoon. The Division is divided info six classes, according to number, with, however, the important addition of the phrase “for the time being.” In oilier words, provision is made for altering the classification of the Reservists in accordance with any increase in the number of his children or depletion by death. The Gazette also defines the position of the Reservist in relation to illegitimate children, and directs that any Reservist- who has lost a son as a result of service in His Majesty’s naval or military forces during the present war shall have that son counted as if lie had still been living. The schedule fixing the classification is as follows: 1. The Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve shall consist of six classes, distinguished and constituted as follows: 2. Class A shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have no children, 3. Class B shall comprise all reservists'of the Second Division who for the time being have one child. ■l. Class C shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have two children. •5. Class 1) shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have three children. (i. Class E shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the lime being have four children, 7. Class F shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have more Hum four children. S. In the schedule the term “child” is used irrespectively of age. !). In this schedule the term “child” includes a child legally adopted by the reservist before 1 the Ist day of .May, 1015, but includes no other adopted children. 10. In this schedule the term “child” includes a child of the wife of a reservist if the rcservst married the mother of that child before the Ist day of May, 1015, but includes no other step-children. 11. In this schedule the term “child” includes the illegitimate child of a reservist if the reservist has married (he mother of that child before the Ist day of May, 1015, but includes no other illegitimate children. 12. For the purpose of this schedule a child who lias been legally adopled by any person shall not be counted as a child of his natural parents. 13. If any son of a reservist of the Second Division has, during (he present war, died while a member of any Mxpeditionary Force raised under the Mxpeditionary Forces Act, 11)17), or while a member of any other of 11 is Majesty's Military or Naval Forces engaged in (lie present war. such son.shall for (he purposes of this schedule be computed as one of tin 1 children of (hat reservist in the same manner as if he had been still living. CHANGE OF CONDITION. NOTIFICATION MADE COMPULSORY. A further Gazelle Extraordinary was issued at the same time making it compulsory for Second Division Reservists to notify any change in condition according to number of children. The object of this is to enable the Government Statistician to determine the classes to which Reservists belong for the time being. The regulations are as under: 1. (1) With (he exception hereinafter set forth, every reservist of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve under (he "Military Act, Ifilti, shall within ten days after the filth day of July, 15)17, deliver to a postal officer at a post office, upon a printed form to be obtained on application at that post office, a true statement indicating the number of his children as on the said 11th day of July, 1017, together with the names, dates, and places of birth of those children, and if the reservist had no children on that date indicating the fact. (2) If any such children fire illegitimate, adopted, or stop-chil-dren, this fact must be specially indicated in the said statement. (3) Nothing in (he foregoing regulation shall apply to any reservist who has already before the date of this Order in Council furnished to the Government Statistician in writing, either under .the National Regist rat on Act, 15)15, or under the Military Service Act, 1910, sufficient information as to his children to enable the Government Statistician correctily to enrol that reservist in his proper class in the Second Division as at the said 11th day of July, 1017. 2. If after the filth day of July, 1017, any change takes place in the number of the children of any reservist of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve, the reservist shall, within ten days after the day on which that change takes place, post to the Government Statistician at Wellington a registered letter informing him of the fact, date, and nature of the change, and setting out the full name, residence, and occupation of the reservist. 3. If any reservist fails to fulfil any obligation imposed upon him by
these regulations, or if by any false representation relative to Ms children he deceives or attempts to deceive the Government Statistician, he shall be guilty- of an offence against these regulations, and shall be liable under the War Regulations Act, 1914, accordingly. 4. In these regulations the term “child” or children” has the same meaning as in the schedule of Or-der-in-Council of the 4th day of July, 1917, whereby the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve was divided into classes.
