Writes the travelling reporter of the Wanganui Chronicle: “Several months ago the Government commenced meat stores in Auckland, with the object »f giving the people cheaper meat than the butchers were prepared for, and in consequence the citizens of Auckland have been saved some thousands of pounds in their meal purchases. The Government is now going inlor another experiment, namely the baking of bread, and with that object in view a very large bakery is to bit" erected at Marlon Junction. The new project is itt connection with the commissariat of the Main Trunk, find will possibly cost the count rv £2,000.” ■
