MONTESSORI INFANT SCHOOL.
THE Montessori infant school at Wanganui continues to provide instruction for teachers from all parts of New Zealand, says the Feilding Star. Recently five Wellington teachers spent a week there, and others from Canterbury and Otago have also paid visits. The lady visitors took great interest in the work, and, judging from the use they made of their note-books, the result should be satisfaqtory. Miss Allen, the acting-Premier’s daughter, who takes a great interest in Montessori work, was also there re-
cently, and spoke in .term, 1 * cf the highest praise of what she had seen. Yet, when the attendance was affected recently by sickness and .bad weather, the Minister of Education was deaf to an appeal to allow an extra pupil-teacher to remain in the school because the “average” was affected. Both the Board and the teachers have spent a great deal of time and money in developing this system, but not one penny extra- has been given by the Minister towards this work which he cannot speak too highly of!
