THE SHORTEST DAY.
The question has been asked by a correspondent as to what is the shortest day. As a matter id: fact, the 22nd inst. is the shortest day of the year, because the sun then reaches its furthest declination north at about midday. The shortest day depends entirely on the sun’s position. .On the 21st inst. the sun was on the meridion due north at llhrs. 52 mins. 15.4 secs.; on the 22nd it was due north at llhrs. 52 min. 28.55ec., and to-day at llhrs. 52min. -U.tisce, It will thus he seen that the sun is Usee, later per day in getting to the meridian.
