RACING DURING WAR.

!>EDCCTIOX tN WKiddXCTOX DISTRICT. A meeting of the District Committee for the Wellington racing (list rid was held at Wellington on Monday to consider the rt quest of the (lovernment and (he Joint .Racing and Trotting Conference that suggestions be made for the reduction of the number of racing days in the Wellington provincial district. The recommendation of I he committee was that Wellington Club should lose three days, Otaki one day, Ilorowhenua one day, Wairarapa one day, Maslerlon one day, and Carterton one day. The instruction to the committee was that the number of days would have to be reduced by eight, and the foregoing decision was made as to how the lost days should be distributed. All the (dubs in the district were represented at the meiding, and evidence was given on behalf of every (did). The recommendation of the committee was unanimous. Two of the clubs affected by the redact hue —Ilorowhenua and Car-terton—-had only one day of racing in every season, so (hat for them reduction means the (dosing of their courses until the end of the war. Xothing can be said yet about, the result of the curtailment on the operations of the other (dubs. It may be, for instance 1 , that some of them will not-care to hold oue-day meetings, and may wash (o alter (heir programme for the season accordingly. These questions will come before the conference when it approves the dales for the yeal’. In accordance with the scheme as adopted by the Joint conference, those (dubs which continue (o race wilt be asked to provide sufiicient money from their prolits to maintain Ibe courses of those clubs which are (dosed down. In addition, the committee made Ibis furl her recommendation with the ob.ieid of keeping alive the (dubs compelled to suspend operations;—“That the (dubs wdiicli continue to hob! meldings should grant the privileges of holloa ry membership to all those members of the clubs which are closed down, so lung as those members continue to subscribe to their own clubs.''''
