THE ROUND BUSH.
AT the recent Patriotic Concert, Mr Nash, Palmerston’s Mayor and a member of tlie Foxlon Harbour Board, urged the large gathering not to Jose the opportunity of acquiring the beautiful piece of natural bush offered in exchange by the Harbour Board for its equivalent in a portion of the borough reserve adjoining. Judging by the outburst of applause that followed Mr Nash’s remarks, it can be safely assumed that the suggested exchange met with general approval. We are informed, that an attempt is to be made by the Council to approach the Government with the object of requesting (hat the bush be handed over to the borough as a’xseenic reserve, and that the Government grant a further endowment to the Board in lieu of same. We sincerely hope the Council will not do any such thing. The Government or Marine Department transferred the endowment to the Board, and it is for the Board alone to deal with. For theuCouncil to approach the Government on the subject, as outlined above, would be an act too foolish for serious consideration. The Board is actuated in this matfer of exchange to the Council, and the basis will be fair and equitable. The Board is acutated in this matter in the public interest, and not as a bargain-monger. It is for the Council to consider and deal with the matter in the same spirit. The whole thing is simple, and the Coun-
cil will be ill-advised to introduce irrelevant side-issues. A public meeting' will.give the Council a lead if it wants one.
