Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 1917. THE CARNIVAL.

OUR heartiest congratulations to (lie Carnival Committee upon the success of the recent effort to supplement (he funds on behalf of our siek and wounded soldiers. Allhoed, we are informed that over £50(1 was raised. Because ordinary meetings of tlie local patriotic Society had not been well attended, it had gone forth (hat there was no public enthusiasm in such matters. It is hard to work up enthusiasm to discuss routine business in any society, but set some objective, and the public is soon galvanised into action. The recent carnival shows what can be accomplished in a short time, and removes (he reproach of local indifference. Those who mooted the Carnival got to work, and by their united and harmonious efforts put up a Foxton record , It is, of course, unfair to mention names where all worked so well, but we would be failing in a public duly did we not mention the lead of the Mayor (Mr John Chrystall) the secretary (Rev. W. Maine), and Mesdames .las. Robinson, McMarray and Barber gave to the effort. Give the Foxton public the right lead, and they can accomplish things equally as well as the public of any other community.
