RACING PERMITS.
DECISION OF CABINET AN-
NOUNCED
The Minister for Internal Affairs (Ilie Hon. 0. W. Russell) made the following statement on Friday night H> a reporter; '‘The question of racing permits has been carefully considered by Cabinet, which has resolved that a suhstanlial curtailment of racing is necessary in Ihc ini crests of: the counIrv. Accordingly, a letter has been despatched to Sir George Clifford, president of the Racing Conference, Mr John Rowe, president of Iho Trolling Conference, and Air R. (I. Bruce, president of tin: Country Racing Club's Association, slating (he decision of the Government, and requesting them to submit to the Government alternative proposals I'm- a reduction of the racing permits issued during Hie present year by one-third and one-halt. Their attention has been directed to the fact that as a number of chibs may require to discontinue racing (luring the war, in consequence of the reduction, it is desirable that conferences interested should consider (his aspect of the mallei - , and suggest financial proposals affecting clubs which may close racing.”
