APRIL WORKING

During (he month of April 559,(i 0() ft. of gas was manufactured at (he local works, and there was 3,000 ft. in the holder on April Ist, making a total of 5(52,(100 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 198,800 ft., cooking and healing 18-1,900 ft. and power 118,200 ft. 1-1,000 ft. was used in the street lamps, 20,000 ft. in (he holder on (lie first of May, leaving 22,700 ft., representing four per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. The manager’s report, as under, was read and adopted: —“I heg to report (hat 1 took charge of your gas works on April 28th, and found same in good order, but I hope in the near future to make some alterations as regards the water supply and also tarring part of the yard for the storage of coal. The contractors are making good progress with the concrete work, and with line weather should he linished in two weeks’ time. 1 have fixed the inlet and outlet to tank, and will have the ironwork ready in a week’s lime. The Gits Committee recommended that lenders be called for (he erection of the iron portion of (he gas holder recently purchased from Gisborne, and the following resolution was passed on (he motion of Cr MeMnrray, seconded by Cr. Henderson: That alternate tenders be called for tin* erection of the gas holder recently purchased from Gisborne (1) ’fenders for erecting (labour only). (2) Tenders for erecting and providing new crown in 10 gunge English iron.

It Wits further decided on the motion of the .Mayor, seconded by Cr Coley, that specifications for same he drawn up by the gas works manager and Town Clerk, to be afterwards submitted to the Gas Works Committee.
