Both State mine* resumed work-in-day, after a three day*' strike as a protest against the alteration with respect to workers’ tickets on the railways. At a meeting of miners on Saturday a telegram from Sir James Allen (Acting-Prime Minister) was received. It is said to have intimated clearly that no concession* could he made. .SEDITIOES UTTERANCE. A SENTENCE DEFERRED. Dunedin, Yesterday. When William Alfred Coleman, a miner from Runanga, was brought up for sentence this morning for inciting a seditions strike at Fairfield, Mr Macgregor, Crown Solicitor. asked that, sentence he adjourned, he having been so instructed by (he Government in pursuance of (be settlement of the strike terms with the miners. He disclaimed any wi*h to interfere with (he Magisterial functions. Sentence was adjourned for four weeks, and accused was released on his own recognisance. A FRESH OITDERAK. Tim Acting-Prime .Minister (Sir ■lame* Allen) informed a Post reporter yesterday afternoon that the miner* at the Stale coal mines on the West Coast had resumed work. He expressed his pleasure at the fact, and added that the Government had not made any concession to the miner* with regard to the workmen's jiekels. Immediately afterward*. Sir Jame* Allen announced ihc receipt of the news that the miners at the Paparoa mine have gone out on a question of timbering. ‘‘lf that is *o.'' he *aid, “the men have broken their agreement. T am quite aware that the Paparoa miner* were the only one* who carried a motion againsi resinning work, hut it was understood that they would abide by the decision of the majority. CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK. A. conference is to be held in Wellington on Thursday week, 10th May, between representatives of ihe Coal Mineowners’ Association and the .Miner*' Federation. It will be remembered that (he previous eon Terence, held some two months ago. resulted in no settlement, neither side being prepared to accept the terms offered.
