THE HEMP MARKET.

The High Commissioner cabled as follows on Tuesday evening;— The hemp market is firm. There is little offering. The Government has taken control, and the Manila hemp business is therefore unsettled. The freight difficulty hinders New Zealand business. Quotations are nominal: Good fair New Zealand £75 10s, fair £72. April-June shipments, good fair New Zealand £74, fair £72. The Manila output for the fortnight ending LUh April was 50,000 bales. St. Helena hemp on spot was sold at auction at £77 15s, and tow at £4O ss.
