BURGLARIES AT OTAKI.

Fur sonic time past considerable uneasiness lias been caused in Otaki by the number of burglaries and thefts that 'have taken place. The business premises of Messrs Kiri", Cockrell, Lamia 11, Irvine, Minton, Yen Guy and others were entered, and money and various articles —ehielly the former —stolen. In some instances the shops were entered on more than one occasion, and strict watches have been kept. On Saturday Constable Satherley arrested a man named George Sharp, alias Edward Horne, who a lew months back opened up a fishmongers business in Otaki. He was charged on three counts at the Otaki Court, and Detective Andrew pointed out that Sharp was an old offender, served 18 months in Christchurch in lt)0(! for breaking, 'entering and theft (three charges), 18 months at the same place and in the same year on four charges of theft, 12 months and two years’ reformative treatment for breaking nnd entering in 1911 at Wanganui. ;uul three years in Napier in 1914 on similar charges. After doing time at the latter place, he had come to Otaki. The Bench sentenced accused to six months’ imprisonment on the first charge, six months on the second, and three months on the third, with hard labour, sentences to be cumulative.
