THE SIXTH BALLOT.

LOCAL AND DISTRICT NAMES. The result of the sixth ballot taken under the Military Service. Act from aiming members of the First Division of (lie Expeditionary Force Reserve for tilling the vacancies in the 30th Reinforcements, mobilising two months hence, was issued in the form of a Gazette Extraordinary at JO o’clock on Tuesday morning. The vacancies have been caused by the failure of voluntary recruiting to produce the repaired number of men, the actual shortage being 1,203. To meet this 4,812 have been called up, the purpose of drawing four men for every vacancy to be tilled being to allow sufficient margin for exemptions on various grounds and rejections on account of medical unfitness. Formerly only three men were drawn for every vacancy to be tilled, but in view of the tightening up of the medical regulations it was decided to increase the proportion to four to one, and this was applied for the lirsi time in the present ballot. In future ballots the proportion of Reservists drawn will be the same. The numbers of men drawn in the various ballots to date have been as follow: — Ist Ballot.
