The Hon. W. !). S. MacDonald. Minister ok Agriculture, who returned to Wellington yesterday after spend in”' over two weeks in the South Island, devoted a "'real deal of his time to the wheat question, and addressed twenty-five meetings of farmers. At practically all of these gatherings resolutions were passed assurin'* - the Government (hat the wheat-growers would use their best endeavours to put in increased areas of wheal for the purpose of supplying the requirements of tin* Dominion. In North Gauterbury the farmers promised to give every assistance possible, the Minister recognising that I hey were under a serious disadvantage owing to the prolonged spell of dry weather. The Minister announced that the Government was taking over the next wheat crop at 5s Kiel per bushel f.o.b.
