' The Town C|erk reported as. follows at last night’s Council meet-

The road staff has been engaged on the following works during the past month, vm: completing piping of Awahon drain, tarring Main Street, and repairing sand cuttings in .Johnston Street. No more tar is available at present for completing the Main Street, and that portion between Wharf Street and the Council Chambers will require another coat. As a result of the resolution passed at the special meeting of the Council held on the 19th ultimo, Mr A. G, Huntley lias resigned his position as surfaceman, and Mr T. Cooke, borough foreman, intimates that he is not prepared to proceed any further under a salary of 12s per day. 1 would he pleased to receive your instructions in this matter. As required by Councillor McColl, 1 have pleasure in submitting details of the cost of tarring Main Street dining the past season as follows: Wages paid 34 18 3 Carting - - 9 Sand, (id yds.(AS/- 24 0 0 Tar, 102 casks (a 17/G 89 5 0 Total £l5O 5 3 The surface covered measures approximately 440 yards by 25 yards, or 23 square chains. The total cost per square chain is approximately £0 IDs (id, labour costing £1 10s 4d, and materials and carting £5 0s 2d.
