METHODIST CHURCH.
The annual harvest effort in connection with the above was celebrated on Sunday last, when the preacher for the day was the min ister, the Rev. IV. Rowe. The church was tastefully decorated with the generous gifts of the public, and presented a pleasing appearance. In the centre of the display stood a cherry tree laden with small coloured bags containing amounts of various sums from local residents and friends from different parts of the Dominion and Sydney. The tree represented a “Birthday Tree” scheme, which had been carried through by Mr and Airs Rowe and helpers, and was valued at £33 0s 2d. The highest amount on the tree came from Air S. T. Brent, of Bathgate House, Rotorua, in the form of a cheque for £4 2s (id. It is interesting to know that Air Brent was 82 years old last September, and therefore included in his gift Is for every year of his life, and (id exchange on the cheque. The “Birthday ’free’ lias been responsible for liquidating several petty I nisi debts and setting aside £l2 as well for parsonage requisites. Appropriate sermons were delivered, and special music was rendered by the choir. Good congregations assembled for the celebrations. The sale of gifts took place on Monday evening, when Air \V. Bullard excelled himself as auctioneer, and Air Al. Walker aeled as (Jerk. The effort was a pronounced success, realising a total of £42.
