FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Patriotic Society Avas held on Thursday evening last, the President (Mr Alf. Fraser) presiding over a fair attendance of members.
The Secretary reported that the balance in hand Avas £1,762 16s 7d, of Avhich £1,250 Avas earning interest, and it was decided to deposit a further £SOO in the Post Office Savings Bank. Of (he receipts to date, £592 17s lid has passed through the Patriotic Shop, £lB6 2s 9d received from the Patriotic Boxes, £321 16s lid raised from special efforts, concerts,etc., and £9Bl 8s 9d received in subscriptions. Of the expenditure, £79 10s has been devoted to relieving the necessities of Avounded and discharged soldiers, £26 lis 3d paid for current expenses, and £213 15s 4d handed over to other funds such as the Belgian and Red Cross Funds and tite War Contingenl Association, London.
It was resolved to donate £lO to the funds of the Anzac Club, Palmerston North, whieh attends to file wants and entertainment of Foxton men mobilised in Palmerston N., on their wa.v to camp, and also assists returned soldiers passin,t>' through. An application was received from the 01 aid Patriotic Society asking for assistance towards providing a billiard table at the 01 aid Sanatorium, where (lie Government is placing a large number of sick soldiers. £2 2s was grained.
Mention was made of a lecture which had been delivered by Dr. Newman, M.P., on his experiences at the front, and it was decided to ask the Doctor to deliver a lecture a! Foxton on a date to be arranged. The annual general meeting of the Society will be held on Thursday, I2(h April, when the report and balance-sheet will be submitted and oflicers for tlu* coming year elected, also arrangements made for the celebration of Anzac Day, April 2Mrd. A discussion took place on the patriotic boxes collection system, and in view of the diminishing response being made by the public, it was decided to make a final collection and call in all boxes.
Collectors are asked to empty the boxes as soon as they conveniently can, and lake delivery of same, handing proceeds and boxes to Mr F. llcalcv.
Householders are respect fully urged to make this linai collection a record one, and all those who wish to continue making a monthly contribution are asked to hand same into the Patriotic Shop any Saturdav it is convenient.
The Pn( nolie Shop was open as usual last Saturday, under Iho charge of Mesdaines Kenton and Boyd, and very good business was done. Tim guessing of the name id! a flower tor a cake made by Mrs Kenton was won by Dr. Mandi, Iris lioinj>‘ the llower. Gifts are gratefully acknowledged from Mesdaines F. Kohinson, Lynes, Moore, Kenton, Alex. Boss, .Francis, Walker, Arthur Green, Greig, King-, McMurray. C. Symons, Satherley, Gower, C.
