GOOD FRIDAY AND PICTURE ENTERTAINMENTS.

At last night’s Borough Council meeting, applications were made by local moving picture house prolific! ors to screen pictures on Good Friday. The .Mayor and Gr Bryant moved that the Council cannot see ils way to grant permission to exhibit pictures on Good Friday. The .Mayor pointed out that Good Friday had a deep significance to Christian people, ft was a day of sorrow, not of gladness, and he was opposed to picture entertainmenis and theatricals on that dav.

Cr Thompson said the picture people had every other day in the year, except Sundays, in which to make a living from the picture business. and he would support the Mayor'> motion for the reasons given.

Crs Coley and Henderson also supported the motion, which was carried, Cr AlcColl alone dissenl-
